“A powerful reminder that leadership isn’t about recognition, it’s about contribution. Dr. Norlan Hernández reinforced that real leadership transcends titles; it’s about empowering others, creating opportunities, and showing up authentically in every space we occupy. The emphasis on how our Latinidad strengthens our leadership through culture, community, and contribution resonated deeply with me.”

Oscar Leong | Chief Philanthropy Officer @ Delhi Center
I recently had the privilege of hearing Dr. Norlan Hernández speak at ALPFA’s (Association of Latino Professionals For America) annual leadership summit on the topic of leadership. I walked away feeling inspired, challenged, and motivated to reflect on how I can continue growing as a leader.
There were so many valuable takeaways, but the message that resonated most deeply with me was his reminder that we need to “build and rely on community. Leadership is communal.”
Those words truly hit home. As I move forward, I hope to lead by building and strengthening community—because leadership, at its core, is never a solo journey.”

Pursuing Self: Body, Mind, Spirit.
PURSUING SELF presents a set of poems that speak to the lived experience of a hyphenated identity. It captures intimate thoughts, expresses counter-cultural vulnerability, and highlights honest emotions in poetic expression. The poems included in this book are an honest depiction of life in the body of a Nicaraguan-American man.
